The situation

adidas Consortium was the collaboration architecture through which adidas worked with the most culturally significant independent retailers globally. Above it sat the brand's statement collaborations — the designer partnerships and special projects through which adidas signalled its creative ambition to the audiences that decide whether such ambition is credible. Both operated inside the specific logic of sneaker culture, where the quality of a creative partner, the narrative behind a release, and the decisions around access and scarcity were all read as signal by the communities that gave the program its value.

The real problem

The risk was structural. A statement or Consortium release executed without genuine creative investment would be read immediately as a category exercise — and would damage credibility in exactly the communities whose trust sustained the commercial value of these programs.

The work

Global lead for brand marketing, PR, and cultural storytelling across adidas statement and Consortium projects — based in Berlin within haeberlein & mauerer's adidas Trend Marketing unit from 2010, and for a year in-house in Herzogenaurach as Global Trend Marketing Manager (2014–15), responsible for global marketing and communications across the Consortium line and collaboration projects.

Developed the narrative frameworks and content toolkits that gave each release a specific cultural position rather than a generic brand story — and ensured cross-market coherence while preserving the local specificity that made individual releases land rather than simply appear. Managed a global trend marketing and PR network across New York, Tokyo, London, and Berlin, and built long-term relationships with the creators, stylists, musicians, and cultural operators whose participation gave releases their meaning. Storytelling was designed social-first, calibrated to hype cycles, subcultural signals, and global drop moments.

The outcome

A global collaboration programme that sustained its cultural credibility across its peak years, in markets with very different cultural contexts, without the kind of misstep that ends cultural capital overnight.
